Philadelphia chefs Amanda Shulman and Alex Kemp are the creative force behind three of the city’s most exciting dining destinations—Her Place Supper Club, My Loup, and Pine Street Grill. Partners in both life and hospitality, they share a deep commitment to ingredient-driven cooking, thoughtful technique, and the joy of gathering around the table.
Amanda Shulman is the executive chef/owner of Her Place Supper Club, one of three restaurants in Philadelphia awarded One MICHELIN Star in the city’s inaugural MICHELIN Guide. The intimate 26-seat dining experience reflects Amanda’s early days hosting dinner parties while studying at the University of Pennsylvania, where her love for bringing people together around the table first took shape. After training and working in the kitchens of Marc Vetri and cooking at acclaimed restaurants including Osteria della Brughiera in Bergamo, Ko, Roman’s, and Joe Beef, she returned to Philadelphia to create Her Place Supper Club—a restaurant built around seasonality, community, and the pleasures of shared meals.
Alex Kemp began his culinary journey at 14 in Canada and went on to train in some of North America’s most celebrated kitchens, including Joe Beef, Vin Papillon, Au Pied de Cochon, Eleven Madison Park, Momofuku Ko, and Restaurant Moor Hall in England. After returning to Montreal and cooking at Mon Lapin, he eventually settled in Philadelphia where he and Amanda opened My Loup (Alex as Executive Chef/co-owner and Amanda as co-owner), a lively restaurant inspired by French and French-Canadian cuisine, known for its evolving menu, generous seafood platters, and spirited hospitality.
Together, Amanda and Alex bring a collaborative approach shaped by years in world-class kitchens and a shared belief in cooking that reflects place, season, and community—creating memorable meals that feel both refined and warmly welcoming. (Photo by Bre Furlong)
